Lois Creek, kimberley, BC

lois Creek trails invasive plant control

History of Project: Don Davies with the Friends of Lois Creek, Jim and Laura Duncan with Mainstreams and Cailey Chase with Vahana recognized that the Spotted Knapweed infestation in the bottom of the Lindsay Park School entrance is very large and is spreading into the rest of the natural areas of the Lois Creek Watershed. This area is heavily used by Kimberley residents however it is privately owned (PINK section on map below.)

So, the focus turned to a Knapweed site on the City owned property (YELLOW section on map). The project has been funded by the Columbia Basin Trust for the past two years. Two treatments per summer of targeted goat grazing have been conducted. Plans for community hand pulls are being formulated to work in conjunction with the goat grazing.

This is a long term commitment as the Spotted Knapweed has been allowed to go to seed at this site.
